My Recent Beauty/Make-Up Product Fails

I’m having such bad luck with beauty and make-up products lately. I just don’t know why all these products failed on me. But, fortunately for all my readers you get to learn from my not-so-fun experiences. Haha. ^^;;;;

Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation

I really wanted to love this foundation. It has such a nice finish on the skin! This is made for oily skin-types, which is right up my alley. But, even though I have oily skin, I do have dry patches here and there. This foundation just does not to anything for dry patches on the skin. It’s gross, it piles upon them making them extremely obvious. I also found blending very difficult at times. You must work in sections while applying because it sets from liquid to powder quite quickly. I’m really awful at blending so I end up having patches of skin with no foundation. That’s really my fault but I need a foundation that can be more forgiving. In the end, I had to return this product back to Sephora. Though, I don’t regret it at all. I don’t think it is worth the $56 price tag.

NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint

Another product I wanted to love. I thought I really liked it when I tried it in-store. But, after using it for a few weeks, I realize it wasn’t really doing anything for my blemishes. If anything, instead of concealing them, it made them stand out. This foundation also wasn’t very good on dry patches. The formula is quite thick and it was hard to blend. The finish is quite nice, matte but not too matte as to look like a mask. Also, I don’t think it was a very good shade for me. I have a neutral skin tone, varying from yellowish to reddish. I know, I have a weird skin tone, but this shade, St. Mortiz was too orange on me. Unfortunately, I also returned this product to Sephora.

Etude House Dear Darling Water Lip Tint in #1

While I was overseas, I couldn’t help stopping by a local Etude House–there was one right near my hotel! Very dangerous indeed. Fortunately, I had enough will power to only buy a couple of items. Weirdly, enough some of the products were much more cheaper if I just bought them online. But, it was nice to try the products in real life. (Just, FYI, the bb creams are sooo light!) Anyways, back to the point, I really love the color of this lip tint. It’s a nice berry color. But, it’s lasting power is pretty awful. It’s gone within the hour and you’ll have to reapply. If you are eating with this tint on, it will disappear completely afterwards. Also, it doesn’t taste that great. (Yea, I know you’re not suppose to taste it, but cmon you do! lol.) If you want a better lip tint stick with the Dear Darling Tint and skip the water tint version.

See the difference from the first swatch versus the next three swatches? I must of gotten a bad batch of lippies.  Swatches top to bottom: Are & Be, Donut, Bumble and Ouiji

This photo was taken a few minutes after the photo above. Do you see how even more cracked and crumbly the last three swatches look now? I can only wear the purple one which is called Are & Be. So I basically wasted my money on three lippies, since Colour Pop does not accept returns. -.-;;;;

Colour Pop Ultra Matte Lip

Okay, you’re probably going to think I’m crazy because I know everyone loves these. But, I find that these do not work for me at all. I don’t know if I got old ones because all of them cracked when applied and dried, except for one of them. When I tried to reapply, I noticed the second application did not match the hue of the first application. I was walking around with two different shades of lipsticks, when in actuality it was just one!!! I felt ridiculous and had to rush to the bathroom to get rid of the mess it made. I know matte lippies tend to be drying but ouch these are painfully dry on the lips. If my tongue grazes my lips it’s like licking sandpaper. There’s nothing redeeming about this lippy! I don’t even think the colors are nice! I’m soooo disappointed because these look amazing on all the beauty gurus I’ve seen them on. I really wish it worked for me. I guess I’m sticking to their eyeshadows, which I love!

Well, those are my recent beauty fails! I hope that these products work for someone out there, but for me, these were a let down. Talk to you guys soon!

Clear Care Contact Solution a Brief Overview

clearcare_1-00

I’ve been a contact user since I was in middle school, at the age of thirteen. I’m now already in my late twenties. (I feel old. T.T)  So, I’ve had my fair share of experiences when it came to using different contact solution(s). When I first started using contacts, my eyes were much more moist than as they are now, really dry and sensitive. Who knows what happened over the years, but wearing contacts for long periods of time really became uncomfortable. Dirty contacts, equals painful and itchy eyes. They’d be so painful, I’d have to take off my contacts and switch over to my trusty glasses. Hence, my contact solution became very important step in my use of my contacts.

I’ve used Renu, Opti-Free and Bausch & Lomb Biotrue in the past. They didn’t quite get the job done, but they at least made my contacts somewhat wearable. If you are a contact user, than you know the somewhat tedious process it is to clean your contacts. Most contact solutions claim to be rub free. But, I feel like you need to clean your contacts by rubbing them down. It’s a very tedious and time-consuming step, but, extremely necessary unless you like random particles agitating you eyes throughout the day.

Biotrue was probably the best contact solution I’ve used until I discovered Clear Care. It cleans your contacts fairly well, but there were times my contacts still had random dust particles attached to them. That single particle of dust makes all the difference!!! I wouldn’t be able to wear by contacts all day!

I thought I’d had to just deal with the subpar results for the rest of my living days. Then, one day, I was watching one of Jen’s (clothesencounters) monthly favorite videos on Youtube where she was talking about a unique product called Clear Care. Clear Care cleans your contacts with a low percentage of hydrogen peroxide by using a special contact container, which then neutralizes the hydrogen peroxide leaving your contacts blissfully clean. The container is cylindrical tube with a screw off lid. Attached are two mini baskets, this holds your contacts in place along with a black gear looking piece, which is responsible for neutralizing the hydrogen peroxide. That piece is very important since it neutralizes the hydrogen peroxide, making it possible for you to wear your contacts safely. (Sorry, I’m not the best at explaining! Good thing for visual aids!) Again, this contact solution uses a very small amount of hydrogen peroxide–it’s what cleans your contacts of dust, dirt, and any proteins that can get stuck on your lens. However, hydrogen peroxide without being neutralized can burn the heck out of eyes. There’s plenty of warnings plastered all over the packaging! Please make sure you read the directions throughly. It takes about six hours to fully neutralize the solution. Which isn’t too bad, if you let them soak overnight while you’re sleeping.

cleancare_1-01

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble! Look at that chemical reaction!

So, besides the container what is so special about this contact solution?  First of all, this stuff cleans your contacts immaculately! It feels as if you are putting fresh contacts each and every time. Also, since it cleans it so well, you can wear your contacts ALL DAY long! I don’t have to bring a pair of glasses with me or a contact case and solution just because my contacts have become way too uncomfortable to wear. Trust me, I am on the computer 24/7 and I can wear my contacts without any strain on my eyeballs. It’s just amazing! I don’t know how I lived my life without this contact solution! Definitely, a holy grain product!

I urge you to make the switch today, you’ll be pleasantly surprised! No more rubbing your contacts down and no more fussing with the typical contact cases! I’m so glad I’ve discovered a way to wear my contacts all day long without the discomfort. I’m never looking back!

Recommend to a Friend: Definitely. You need to try this product!

My Indifferent Experience with RoseRoseShop + Haul

roseroseshop_haul_1.01

RoseRoseShop is an e-commerce website where you can purchase Korean make up and skin care products directly from Korea. Honestly, this site kind of sucks. Keywords here being “kind of”. Okay, I’m starting off to a very negative start but hear me out–it’s not all pessimistic! I know I said I’m indifferent in the title, but made the shipping itself just made me so frustrated. Maybe, I’m just hella impatient. But, comparing my experience with MemeBox and WishTrendRoseRoseShop pales in comparison. I heard Jolse is better, so I think I’ll try them out next. So, why am I so frustrated with this site? First of all, they had an item on their site that was out of stock, yet it looks like it isn’t. When I emailed them about it, they said they didn’t have the resources to fix the issue. Or at least I think that’s what they said. Their English wasn’t the best. I can’t really blame them for that, but I wish they had someone that did know English fluently. I haven’t even placed an order and I’m already having issues. I should of taken that as a sign for the worst. In the end, I did order about 11 items from them. So, today I thought I’d share my experience with RoseRoseShop.

roseroseshop_haul_1.02

Nicely packaged in bubble wrap. Only a couple of boxes the products came in were slightly smushed.

Site/Accessibility: Not the prettiest. Yet, simple and straightforward. However, I did come across an oddity. As I had mentioned in my introduction, there were items being featured on the site that were not actually in stock, hence not intended for purchase. If there’s an item that is indeed out of stock then it shouldn’t be listed on the site at all. I’m sorry but that is just ridiculous. Other than that, I didn’t have too much of a problem navigating the site. Keep in mind, there are wholesale items to purchase on RoseRoseShop. So if you are wondering why a product is $100+ it’s probably because you aren’t purchasing just one unit of that product, but at least 10+ units of that product. Simple fix to not encounter such listings is to change the filter to Price: Low to High.

Price: It seems pretty cheap, but with shipping prices it kind of balances out to be around the same price as other sites. But, I compared prices between MemeBox and WishTrend and it was cheaper to purchase everything at RoseRoseShop. Ultimately, RoseRoseShop was the best price-wise.

Shipping: H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. I realize I opted for the cheapest shipping, which can take up to 20 days. But, if I’m spending $12 for shipping, I expect it to be a little faster than that. It took 22 days for my order to get to me. It was nerve-racking watching the tracking of my package. According to RoseRoseShop, my package had shipped. But, the USPS tracking site stayed on Pre-Shipment for several days before showing any progression. I’ve never encountered that before so I was very worried. Especially, after reading the several bad reviews I found on the blogosphere. Most the reviews said they had missing items from their packages because those items were suddenly no longer in stock. Thus, the items were removed from their order without any prior notice until after the packaged was shipped out. After reading all that, you can’t blame me that much for being worried. Thankfully, my order was complete and nothing was missing from my order. The products were all wrapped in bubble wrap. Though some of the boxes the products came in were slightly smushed.

Overall: 7/10 I am not amused. I am however, relieved. I am extremely hesitant to order again from this site. Even though my items were all accounted for and nothing was damaged, I’m still feeling pretty indifferent (lol) about this site. That said, I think they have potential to grow and become much better. I may revisit in the upcoming future. Hopefully, by then, they would of worked out all of the kinks. I am not saying this site is bad. My experience was just unfortunate. But, I hope by reading this post you’ll be able to become more aware about what this site has to offer and feel less anxious about ordering from RoseRoseShop. I feel as though I let myself be overly influenced by other peoples’ experiences. I forgot that just because their experience wasn’t good, doesn’t mean mine will be the same.

Despite my complaining, the products themselves are wonderful. Onward, to the haul portion! (I will do a review on some of the products I really am enjoying!)

iKateHouse: Mini Haul – First Impressions Quickie

ikatehouse_product_01

Disclaimer: I bought these products with my own money, this is not a sponsored post.

Marissa, here! I wanted to do a quick first impressions on a website that I’ve purchased off just recently, called iKateHouse. I have to say, I’m super impressed! First off, their website is really easy to navigate and is appealing to the eyes with it’s green color scheme. Secondly, their prices are quite fair, that’s including shipping. Standard shipping is $3.95 with orders less than $39! But, if you purchase more than that, shipping would be free. Keep in mind, taxes varies based on where you live, so if you live in SoCal like myself, I’m sorry–lol. FYI, they do offer internationally shipping! A little bit more expensive, than if you live in the States, but unfortunately that’s expected. Thirdly, shipping is super quick!! I ordered on Tuesday and received my package on Friday. Granted, I paid a little extra, about $2, for expedited shipping. But, that’s because processing time can take up to 1-3 days and regular shipping takes up to 5-10 days. I was worried I wouldn’t get my order in time for a wedding I’m attending. Yes, another wedding, lol.

Packing peanuts!!!! How considerate!

ikatehouse_product_03

My products came in pristine condition! I love their attention to detail!
ikatehouse_product_04

These are the three products I bought. Two L.A. Girl Matte Pigment Glosses, in Secret and Backstage & one L.A. Girl Pro Conceal in Pure Beige.

The best part of this site, is that they put so much detail into their packaging! Mine came in a standard packet lined with bubble wrap. They even sprayed perfume onto the packaging. Interesting touch, even though I don’t care for perfume. I have sensitive skin so fragrances are kind of a no-no for me. Anyway, the products were wrapped in bright green tissue paper; a strip of paper, embellished with a sticker–their logo, held everything together. After removing that, it was wrapped in more bubble wrap, surrounded by packing peanuts and a couple of their business cards were also included. I was absolutely floored by how much care was taken into consideration. Everything was in pristine condition, with the products’ original plastic still intact. What more, could I ask for?! Super happy with iKateHouse, I’m glad I gave them a chance. I hope if you try them out, they treat you just as well!

Battle Of The Natural Deodorants – New Series

main_image
When Debbie and I first started this blog, one of the first ideas was to pin products against each other in a battle to see which product is the best. Hence, the Battle Of series is born! The first post of this series is all about natural deodorants. Ever since I heard aluminum, which is commonly found in most deodorants can possibly cause breast cancer (FYI, I’m high risk for breast cancer!), I decided to find a natural way to stay sweat and odor free! The contenders today are: Tom’s of Maine, Kiss My Face and The Honest Company!
toms_deo

Tom’s of Maine Natural 24 Odor Protection Long Lasting Deodorant in Soothing Calendula 2/10

Price: $3-$4.50

Smell & Effectiveness: The first natural deodorant I’ve ever tried and is probably the worst deodorant I’ve ever used in my entire life. Stay away from this product, unless you want to smell so bad that no one wants to be near you. Believe me, I’m trying to save you from the embarrassment!! It just doesn’t work, you’ll smell good for maybe a few hours and then you’ll start smelling awful. It does not help with body odor or help decrease sweating. I’ve only gave it 2 points because the smell. When you initially apply the deodorant, it is actually smells quite nice. It has an herbal flowery smell, I can’t exactly figure it out, but if I could explain in my own words, it reminds me of rosemary/thyme mixed with lavender. Even though the label clearly says Soothing Calendula–I’m not sure what a calendula flower would smell like. Such a disappointment! I would say the best thing about this product other than maybe the smell, is it’s price point.

Bottom Line: I do not recommend this product, save your money and try something else.

kissmyface_deo

Kiss My Face Natural Active Life Deodorant in Cucumber Green Tea 5/10

Price: $4-$7

Smell & Effectiveness: I really wanted to love this deodorant because it’s smells wonderful. It reminds me of Cucumber Melon from Bath & Body Works, back in the old days. You can really smell both the green tea and cucumber! A super fresh and clean scent, not heavy at all. However, it doesn’t work that much better than the Tom’s of Maine deodorant. While, it does to a better job with body odor it only lasts for maybe a quarter of the day, about six hours before you start smelling a little gross. Maybe, if you are willing to reapply throughout the day, you’d be fine using this deodorant. But I think for most people, including myself, would rather apply their deodorant once in the morning (and or once at night) and be done with it, not having to worry about smelling funky for the rest of the day. It’s not an awful product but it isn’t the best either, pretty mediocre. Though, considering the price, depending on where you purchase it, this product might not be worth your time.

Bottom Line: I do not recommend this product, at least not by itself. Or only if you are willing to reapply every six hours.

honest_deo

The Honesty Company Deodorant in Bergamot Sage 8/10

Price: $8-$9

Smell & Effectiveness: One of the better natural deodorants I’ve tried. I was starting to become dishearten because the natural deodorants I’ve tried thus far just didn’t work for me. This deodorant is much different because it’s in a spray bottle versus the typical stick deodorant. Can’t say I love the idea of using a liquid deodorant, I feel like it wouldn’t last as long as a stick deodorant. Also, I have problems with the spray nozzle, sometimes I would spray it elsewhere than my armpits. That’s more of a personal thing I’m sure, since I’m rather clumsy. That said, I really love the smell! However, if you don’t like herbal scents, this deodorant also comes in Vanilla Lavender and Vetiver (a grass, which has an earthy & woody aroma). But, if you’re like me, who loves earl grey tea (btw, bergamot is in earl grey! But, you knew that! ^. ~)) and the smell of fresh herbs, this deodorant is a great fit for you! I have to say this deodorant lasts the longest, I usually stay odor free for half of the day, about 12 hours. Though keep in mind, if you sniff your pits by end of the day, you’ll smell just a little, faintly funky, but I don’t think anyone will notice unless they are straight up trying to smell your pits. It does work, but it still isn’t anything like your typical deodorant with aluminum in it. But, I’m still quite happy with it’s performance compared to the other two natural deodorants I’ve tried.

Bottom Line: Yes, I recommend this deodorant! It’s a worth a shot!

Overall: Seems like the more expensive the deodorant is, the better it performs. I guess, you get what you pay for, as they say! While it’s not always the case, there is some truth to it. Since, I still have plenty of the Kiss My Face Green Tea Cucumber deodorant left, I use it in conjunction with The Honest Company Deodorant in Bergamot Sage. I don’t know if it really does anything to boost the effectiveness, but it seems to work, so I can’t complain. While I haven’t found a deodorant that can beat one that contains aluminum, I think The Honest Company did a great job! I know that there was controversy over their sunscreen products lately, but I seeing how this was the first product I’ve ever used by them and it works, I feel I can’t judge them too harshly. I feel like with every product there is a chance it doesn’t work for you while it may work for someone else. But, I do feel for those who put their trust into this company and were rewarded with adverse reactions. I guess, that’s all the reason to do lots of research before purchasing, but that’s not always possible. It’s unfortunate that it’s a trial and error kind of process but hey, that’s kind of just life, isn’t it?

crown

The Winner: The Honest Company in Bergamot Sage!
